This is a close translation of the German language interview conducted by our staff covering the RMC Finals.

To the surprise of many, the Swedish Counter-Strike Team of German eSports Clan / Sporting Club SSV Lehnitz did not take part in the Finals of the Revelcell Masters Challenge, being replaced by a mixed team of German players under the same clan tag. We had the chance to conduct an interview with clan leader Norbert Srobek, commonly known as roofman. He talks about the departure of the Swedish team, as well as the reasons for the separation and the future of SSV Lehnitz.

readmore.de: What’s the reason for your Swedish team not participating in the RMC Finals?

roofman: After the ACON5-Event, our organizer legolas delivered the players‘ demand for a salary amounting to 600 Euro per month. This demand is not agreeable for a team playing together for six weeks, with one player leaving for NiP. Within these six weeks, we allowed the team to participate at Rixhack, ESWC Qualifier and the ACON5 Qualifier, as well as the CPL World Tour Stop in Brazil. In our opinion, this is a lot more than other organizations have to offer to their teams.

readmore.de: Which player will be leaving for NiP?

roofman: It’s going to be zet. And it seems like Snajdan is going to team up with ex-NiP.

readmore.de: What was the players‘ salary prior to that?

rooman: Our players didn’t have a salary, but they were allowed to keep all their prize money from the events. Additionally, all travel expenses were covered.

readmore.de: Isn’t it strange, to demand a salary right after the bad performance at ACON5?

roofman: We were also quite astonished, to be approached with this demand right now and to have the participation at the Revelcell Masters depend on it.

readmore.de: Is it possible, that the team just wanted to depart?

roofman: I don’t think so, because some of the players are still in contact with us and wanted to stay. But we just don’t see a solid basis in that right now.

readmore.de: Are you going to follow-up with another Swedish team?

roofman: Lehnitz qualified for the ESWC at Dreamhack and we are going to occupy this spot. Accordingly, we will be presenting a new team before ESWC.

readmore.de: Ex-NiP?

roofman: Ex-NiP would be great, but as far as we are informed, their contracts are still running until June 17th, so they can’t take part in the ESWC Qualifier, but they are going back to their „old home“ anyways. We assigned an ex-player of SSV Lehnitz to form a new team for us.

readmore.de: Why don’t you stick to your German CS-team?

roofman: We have a German CS-team playing in the GIGA-Liga, and it is intended to play the qualification for the ESL Pro Series. But this team did not yet rise to the occasion of international competition, so we are forced to maintain another team. It is very hard to build up a team for international competition in Germany right now. Mousesports proves this point, as they have to play with two Austrian players to be competitive on an international level. Sure we’d like to have a cutting-edge team from Germany, not only for ourselves but also for the German eSports community, but I don’t see any possibility for that at this point.

readmore.de: Why is it, that you have such a limited choice in players in Germany?

roofman: In my opinion this is related to three factors. First, the Scandinavian teams show a much more professional attitude and are able to present themselves better. Secondly, the internet connections in Scandinavia are way better than in Germany. The players are able to play with 5-8 ping, almost LAN conditions. Thirdly, the communication between teams is gentler than in Germany. For example, gamers stick together after LAN parties, celebrating together and improving their companionship.

readmore.de: You told me about a structural change in Lehnitz. What is your future going to look like?

roofman: It is our idea, to operate independently on the basis of a new club. The name Lehnitz will be incorporated into this new organization. The main problem arising at the moment is, that we’re not able to form contracts with players, since we are a non-profit organization. Also, we have to heed the many obligations of the German legal framework, that are counterproductive for our endeavours.

readmore.de: Thank you for the interview, Mr Skrobek.
