Around eight years ago, in late 2005 to be precise, Fnatic decided to go through some major reconstructions of its Counter-Strike division in order to create room for a new, young and passionate group of Swedish players, a group of players put together by the iconic sniper, Harley „dsn“ Örvall.
The new Fnatic era of Counter-Strike would not only go out and bring home trophies, fame, and prize cheques for many years to come. It would also cement its position as one of the finest and most consistent Counter-Strike franchises in the world.
Despite that we have seen several generations of players coming and leaving our ranks, there is still an unbroken chain, or bloodline, leading back to the the creation of this team – this era.
This is something we at Fnatic are putting a lot of value in, and it makes us proud and humble that something we put into existence in late 2005 has managed to survive and thrive for such a long period of time.
Besides the immense individual skill we have hosted in our ranks during all these years, our main strengths have always been our ability to fight together as an entity, and share a mutual mindset on how to find harmony and success socially and in-game.
Ever since we put our hands on CS:GO for the first time, I do believe we have struggled to find harmony in our team. This has lead to several player changes, sometimes caused by the frustration of not consistently performing on a world-class level, something we have been used to – maybe too much.
When we once more lost a player due to the reasons above, we have came to a point where we need to revise our CS:GO strategy, to ensure we have a team that can represent our legacy, and that starts with a group of people sharing the same passion and mindset you so much need to reach and stay on the top.
From the internal discussions we have had over the past week we have come to the conclusion to temporarily close our Counter-Strike division. This may seem like a radical solution, but dont panic all of the Fnatic and Counter-Strike fans out there, we are not intending to go anywhere, we will rise again.
With that being said, I can hereby announce that Friis and Xyp9x will continue their Counter-Strike endeavours in Copenhagen Wolves, and Karrigan will continue his journey for the German team „Playing Ducks“
Another announcement to be made this evening is the retirement of Martin „Trace“ Heldt, who teamed up with our organisation a year ago. Even that its sad to see one of the most impressive Counter-Strikers leaving professional gaming, Im happy that we were blessed to be able to work with Martin and assist him to realize some of his most precious goals in gaming.
I would like to thank Michael, Martin, Finn and Andreas for their hard work and dedication, and of course, best of luck to you all in gaming and life. I will miss you.
Finally, as the start suggests this is the end of an era, but also the beginning of another.
The sun has set in the west, and stars have fallen from the gaming sky, but we know better than anyone that the sun will once again rise in the east. Just look out for it, a new era is coming.

+ Statement v. Martin ‚Trace‘ Heldt
We had both good and bad tournaments, sadly only the bad shines through, as people are used to Fnatic claiming only the number 1 spot. I never loved this game as I loved 1.6, and I don’t feel like putting thousands of hours into the game, like other teams do, which is a necessity to be on the top consistently.
My CS-journey has now ended, and it was one hell of a ride. I am going to miss everything. The traveling, the hours on vent, the unity, the atmosphere, and the indescribable rush of playing an intense match knowing thousands are watching. I would like to thank everyone who supported me, and enjoyed watching me play – it meant the world to me.
+ Statement v. Michael ‚Friis‘ Jørgensen
This was not the way I had hoped to leave Fnatic, but I hope they will find a team that can put them back as the best CS organisation in the world.
I would like to thank all the players I have played with in Fnatic. Special thanks to Anne, Patrik, Richard, Rasmus, Farre. My time in Fnatic has been unforgettable.“
+ Statement v. Andreas ‚Xyp9x‘ Højsleth
I’m partnering up with Copenhagen Wolves together with Friis and I’m excited about this team full of raw talent. Lastly I want to say thanks to Fnatic for the stay and the professionalism both parties showed during the transfer.“
+ Statement v. Finn ‚karrigan‘ Andersen
I hope Fnatic will find their way to the top in Counter-strike, because they surely belongs with the top teams. For myself I will once again turn my head to the German scene as I’m still eager and motivated to show myself to scene.
I wish Fnatic best in the future and I want to thank the Fnatic organisation and cArn for always being trustworthy and honest.“
