readmore: Tomorrow you will be playing either Astralis or Team Liquid in the semi-finals. Who would you rather play against and why?
Karrigan: „This is the first time I don’t really care about who we are playing. I think those are the two teams that have to play it out and tell the world who is the number, if it is Astralis or Liquid. We are just waiting next in line to play one of them. To me it doesn’t really matter, I just want to play versus the team that is playing best this tournament and I think the team that’s wins today is the team that played the best tournament so far.“
readmore: By reaching the semi-finals, have you already accomplished your goals for the tournament? Are looking to win the whole thing now or are you taking it step-by-step?
Karrigan: „Obviously my goal for these tournaments like in Sydney, here in Montpellier and Cologne is reaching Playoffs and see how far we can go, see how we deal with pressure. So I would lie not to say that this is a really good result going into the tournament. But seeing the way we played and how we beat these teams -beat FaZe, beat MiBR, beat HR- and haven’t lost a single map, obviously I think we can go even further then that now. So if we lose tomorrow against Astralis or Liquid it is not a big thing for me. This where you see what you can learn from mistakes and how far away we are from actually beating a top two team in the world. Right now, I am happy and you can try to ask me after the semi-final depending if we get smashed completely.“
readmore: Recently ropz said in an interview that people are overhyping mousesports. Do you agree and why?
Karrigan: „I mean the way ropz is saying it is because we kind talked about it at some point like “How is this betting website putting us as favourites to win against both Fnatic and Made in Brazil. Coming into this tournament we have zero results, we only lost one Best-of-Three on LAN so far, but against MiBR. But still I think [betting websites] are also putting us as favourites against FaZe, in a matchup where on paper with all the results lately they should absolutely win. I that way I understand what he means with overhyping. The most important thing for me within the team is that we have the same goals, we have the same confidence in each other and how far we can go and how far we are in our process yet.“
readmore: With fr0zen being one of the youngest players in the professional scene, what parts of the game are you focusing on when it comes to his development as a professional player?
Karrigan: „So the point about frozen I dint know how he would be communicating. I couldn’t ask former teammates how this guy is as a player. So I basically had to watch a demo and realize that this guy has good mechanics, like incredible good mechanics. When I started playing with him I thought like we basically have to work with him on communication. But is communication is on point. He is playing professional CS for like four or five years, the same level like everyone else in the team. What I can work with on is quite hard to tell you. He has to be put more under pressure and play against Astralis, Liquid. How does he adapt his play style? Maybe he has mix up his playstyle as a CT when people are antistratting us. Maybe there is some work ahead but right now I don’t want to correct him to much, I think he is doing a fantastic job.“
readmore: How much impact did you when building the new mousesports Lineup?
Karrigan: „I would I had a pretty good say in everything that happened. They basically came to me and said we have two players in the team, we are looking to get you and then you can find the last two guys together with ropz and chrisJ. I was really excited to play with frozen, a young guy without contract, with everything. It is a good way to give a chance to a guy especially with a completely new team. After that I wanted an aggressive AWPer like w0xic. He has been on my radar for some time now, since he had an incredible level in HR. I think he also needed somewhere else to improve his career. Also that is a young guy I can work with, I know him very well, we are good friends. It is a guy I can work with, which was really important for me because I still did not know how ropz and chrisJ will be as players. So I had to new, young guns I could work really hard with. I am just happy that we all agreed that this was the right lineup.“
readmore: There has been a lot of criticsm towards the seeding and tournament format at ESL events lately. Do you think sending two teams straight to the semifinals is a good idea?
Karrigan: „What people never realize is that they have to think about all the logistics of the teams. Would I rather have four quarterfinals and only two arena days? No. I would rather have two quarters, two semis and the final played in the arena. I think this format has been working for some time and if you want to have four quarters on the same day, I once played a game that ended at 2 am and the crowd was going out because of all the long games before. I would rather have it as it is right now then changing the system. Also you can play to reach the semi-final when people say the match does not matter, it does matter a lot because you get a Top4 placing.“
