First winning IEF 2009 and 7.300€ then a decent performance at e-Stars Seoul against the European top teams: TyLoo is the strongest Chinese team at the moment and still improving from tournament to tournament. In an interview with readmore.de Tyloo’s Chao ‚GoodRifle‘ Xue speaks about his teams e-Stars performance, the Chinese CS scene in general and his daily progamer life.
Chao ‚GoodRifle‚ Xue: Yes, we are satisfied with this result. You know our team formed only five months ago, and this is the first time we took part in a tournament with so many top teams.
readmore.de: What was your key to success against the European teams? Did you feel that your individual skill level was higher or do you think you surprised them with some special tactics?
GoodRifle: No, I think European teams are better than others because they have quite good control over their emotions. However, we were thinking about the match or a certain match result (lose/win), consequently, those will have some impacts on our performance.
readmore.de: SK|zet said in an interview that it feels strange to play Chinese teams. Does it also feel strange for you to play European teams? What are the main differences between Asian and European teams?
GoodRifle: It wasn’t only the team playing style that was strange, it is the experience as well. We are not that adaptive to the international games due to there were many different things that never occurred in China we need to deal with. For example, we felt nervous; our communication with umpire/referee and other teams was not good enough. After attending more international tournaments such as e-Stars, we will be better.
readmore.de: What impact does your ingame leader alex have on the whole team? Do you think you would’ve been able to make it so far without his help?
GoodRifle: He is our brother, our teammates do trust him. He also has real good performances. Furthermore, we learn many things from him. I do not believe we could’ve achieved these results without his help.
readmore.de: China is well known for having a deep pool of talented players but Chinese international top teams are still rare. Do you think that your local CS scene needs more experienced people like alex who can lead and teach young and upcoming players?
GoodRifle: Of course, there are few experienced players who can lead a team. Most players have good skills, but when they get together, no one can lead them.
readmore.de: What is your opinion about wNv? They used to be the best Chinese team but in the last few months they have had a lots of problems and changed their lineup a couple of times.GoodRifle: I do not take much notice of them but I think their problems are not caused by the players.
readmore.de: Will you be able to attend more international tournaments in the near future and is there any tournament you would really like to participate in?
GoodRifle: Of course, we have to secure our first place in China, so we have the opportunity to go abroad and take part in international tournaments like WCG and WEM, we all want to attend those tournaments. I think we need to attend more events to improve our skills.
readmore.de: You were by far the loudest team at e-Stars. Are you one of those teams who need to scream and cheer a lot to do their best?
GoodRifle: Yes, we are used to having loud matches in China. We felt a little bit strange that other teams‘ voices are low. We talked loudly; whenever sending positions or cheering each other up we used to scream out so that we will feel excited instead of being nervous.
readmore.de: How many hours of Counter-Strike do you play per day and did you have some sort of special preparation before e-Stars?
GoodRifle: We practice six days, everyday we start from 11:30 around till 19:00. Before we attended e-Stars, we did not prepare much tactics, since that is our first time to go abroad and attend an international event. We just wanted to show our A-game.
readmore.de: Do you and your teammates live in the same city and meet at a Netcafe to practice? How do you spend your spare time when you are not playing Counter-Strike?
GoodRifle: We live together, practice together, being with my teammates and I feel very happy about it. At our spare time, we usually go to the gym, go to the cinema and or go shopping.
readmore.de: Are your parents supporting you and your eSports dedication and do they even know something about Counter-Strike or eSports in general?GoodRifle: Yes, they are supporting me in whatever I want to do. They don’t know much about eSports or CS though.
readmore.de: Do you get a monthly salary in TyLoo? If yes: can you only live from your salary and the price money?
GoodRifle: Yeah, we get a salary and it’s good enough for daily life.
readmore.de: How long do you want to be a progamer and what are your plans for your live after your progaming career?
GoodRifle: I never thought about this question: I just want to do my best in CS. That’s it, nothing else. So anyway, step by step is my current condition so far.
readmore.de: Thanks for the interview.
